Fae & Brute - Two commonly missued words Empty
PostSubject: Fae & Brute - Two commonly missued words   Fae & Brute - Two commonly missued words EmptySun Apr 21, 2013 12:56 am

1. ‘Fae’ is not a word. It is not a word to describe the female gender. FAE (as an acronym) is a heat-seeking missile. So unless one's character is a weapon, you might as well be calling your lady a weaponized hunk of metal for all the good it will do!

2. ‘Brute’ is not a gender word restricted to male organisms. It is not a gender word at all, in fact. Rather, it is a descriptive word. Here is the definition of the word brute from
Dictionary.com:

Quote :

brute
Noun
1. A nonhuman creature; beast
2. A brutal, insensitive, or crude person
3. the animal qualities, desires, etc., of humankind: Father felt that rough games brought out the brute in us.

Adjective
1. animal; not human.
2. not characterized by intelligence or reason; irrational.
3. characteristic of animals; of brutal character or quality.
4. savage; cruel: brute force.
5. carnal; sensual

Turns out, brute can be used to describe both masculine and feminine aspects of an individual. Just as a male can be considered feminine over masculine, if his characteristics demand as such.

If you happened to be a user of these words in the wrong context, don't worry: you are not alone. Like any trend, most people see others using these terms, and naturally conclude that they are correct and/or acceptable. Monkey see, monkey do, right? If one didn't go look up the words for them-self, how would they ever know the real usage?

Here are some alternate words you could use: The..

She-wolf
Male
Female
Wolf (yes, its not a bad thing to just say “the wolf”. In fact, its quite an accurate statement.)
Canine
Beast
Animal
Quadruped (lol)
Creature
Girl
Lass
Boy
Lad
Youngster
Elder
Adult
Lady
Bloke
Chap
Stud (iffy for canines)
Sire (also iffy)

As an enthusiastic writer, is pains me to see people incorrectly using them terms all over the place. If you, in fact, are one of those people, don't take offense! As I said previously: Many wolf roleplayers use the terms. All in all, try not to use fae and turn brute down a notch. Feel free to try some of the words I listed above!

★ I knew that for the word "brute" it meant more like beast, I also found out that "fae" wasn't like a real word... I just assumed they had alternate meanings that I had not known about since they were used EVERYWHERE, and ended up using them myself. Thanks for officially clearing this up.

Thanks for the clearing up. I think we've all used those words sometimes. I just assumed that they had some other meaning.
